Daphnia is seriously old school. In fact it was possibly the first live food utilised for feeding captive fish. Those early fishkeepers knew something we have forgotten - Nothing tops live food.
Daphnia is very high in iron and protein, and the jerky movement is virtually irresistible to fish! This makes it a superfood for feeding all your fish, but especially picky eaters. And lets not just stick to freshwater. No way. Marine fish will smash Daphnia as well, and in fact, its a simply brilliant addition to add to their diet diet too. Try this on for size. Shop bought Copepods will not survive long in your tank. They are live food and that's all. They need high densities of Phytoplankton on a daily basis to survive, let alone breed and despite what forums tell you, they wont clear algae, detritus or diatoms. If you are feeding Copepods, for the same price, you are arguably better feeding Daphnia which is more or less identical in nutritional profile but slightly large and more palatable for your fish. And you will usually get more in a bag!
All fish will benefit from live foods. Whilst you don't need Daphnia, I can guarantee that you fish's condition, colour and behaviour will all be vasty improved with a feed or two per week of the good stuff. Try it now!
